Internships
Credo Communications offers unpaid internships in several areas of publishing. These internships can qualify for course credit—please check with your course advisor. Internships are for one semester and require you to be present an average of 15 hours per week.

Job Title: Editorial Intern, General
Department: Editorial
Reports To: Editorial Administrator

Purpose

Editorial Interns work closely with Editorial Assistants to support editors in the signing, developing, and publishing of distinctive and outstanding books. The position is an opportunity to become familiar with, and to participate in, the tasks that go into acquiring and developing authors and books.

Accountabilities

1. Photocopies manuscripts and page proofs to send to authors and readers and blurbers.
2. Orders complimentary copies to send to readers and authors, and facilitates general mailing responsibilities.
3. Tracks down out of print copies with a view toward bringing them back on Print On Demand.
4. Conducts art research for images for covers and jackets to determine the most cost effective purchase.
5. Attends meetings with authors, staff, and other publishing professionals to gain insight into the decision-making process.
6. Maintains royalty and contact databases, such as author addresses, and/or creates documents, such as table of contents for manuscripts.
7. Completes all other duties as assigned or requested for the general support of the organization.

Organization

The Editorial Intern reports to the Editorial Administrator on a day-to-day basis and for overall supervision and coordination

Challenges and Opportunities

Interns interact with authors, with editors, with other staff, such as production editors, compositors, and designers. By doing, the intern is able to get a feel for the processes and complexity involved in acquiring an author or manuscript, taking it through production to a finished book, and then marketing, publicizing and selling it. The actual tasks may be repetitive.

Position Requirements

1. Must be attending a four-year college or university.
2. Must possess superior communication skills, both written and verbal.
3. Must be detail-oriented and meticulously compliant with set procedures.
4. Possess basic computer skills in Word and the Internet. It is helpful to be familiar with databases and programs such as Excel.

Physical Demands

Ability to sit, use hands, talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required will include close vision and distance vision. The environment is that of a typical office.
